Top pros have it...Do you?

Sometimes we look at successful pros and think…

“Wow, they are great riders.”

“She can just make any horse look good!”

“Gosh, her clients love her.”

But often we don’t see the ‘secret sauce’ behind all that riding, teaching, training success. So what is it?

They know how to pick horses. Either for themselves or for their clients.

Future Pros -> It’s what we call having a ‘good eye.’

And while we don’t often think about this as a critical skill for pro success… It is! Selecting a horse for its intended job requires close evaluation of (1) athleticism, (2) conformation for soundness and performance, and (3) trainability for the sport.

As a pro (or a future one!), picking the right horses may make or break your business at times. So here’s what you can do to develop your ‘good eye.’

1.      Find an experienced pro with an incredible eye. Use your network (or ask me via email or DM!) to seek out someone with a proven track record in identifying top-quality horses.

2.      Get as close to them as possible! Observe how they approach the selection process, ask questions, and absorb their knowledge. The best way to do this is to work for them, but you can also learn from them via podcast interviews, YouTube videos, books, etc.

3.      Realize that developing your eye takes TIME. It’s true, some people can see or feel certain things a little quicker than others, but for everyone, developing a good eye takes time and some trial and error. Just keep learning.

You may think having an “eye” is something you’re born with. But the truth is, it can be developed over time by learning from the right mentors. This week’s video dives deeper into this topic, plus I share what I look for in a horse!

Cheers to chasing the dream,

Emily
